Why We Do What We Do

My mother was addicted to drugs at a very young age and by the time she was sixteen she was pregnant by a man ten years her senior. Influenced by her best friend and not wanting her lifestyle to be screwed up by this mistake inside of her, she scheduled an abortion. Her father was completely supportive of the decision but her mother had become a Christian not long before and continually told my mother that she was praying that she would change her mind and asked that she seek God before she went through with the procedure. She explained to her that she was not getting rid of a "problem" but that she was carrying a life inside of her, a life that God had created and that abortion would end this life, that it was indeed murder that doctors put into simpler terms of "pregnancy termination". My mother thought she was crazy and was completely set on going through with the abortion until God started to work on her heart. Two days before the appointment she went for a walk, felt God work on her heart, and came home a changed woman with a clear decision that abortion was wrong and that she would keep the life inside of her no matter how hard it would be. That life was me.

I am now twenty eight years old and although I have had many trials in my life before I gave my life completely to the Lord, I am so incredibly grateful for my mother's decision and for the truth she has taught me about abortion over the years. I too had an unplanned pregnancy with a man I did not want to be with before I came to the Lord. Him and my roommates were persistent [in convincing] me [to have] an abortion, but thankfully my mother raised me with the knowledge of when life begins and how harmful abortion is to both the mothers and the child whose life it steals. Tatum Grace is nine years old now and has been adopted by my amazing husband with whom I also have a two year old daughter full of joy. I thank God for saving my life, instilling truth in my life no matter how far I ran from Him, and for bringing me back to Him to raise my children with the same knowledge and in His love and Truth.

I thank God for what you guys are doing to teach abortion-minded mothers the truth about abortion. I pray that you are able to show many women the love of God by your movement, and so importantly, the truth.

The Power of Adoption

I was born in November 1991 in Bogota, Colombia. My birth mother was unable to take care of a second child. In the kindness of her heart, she carried me to term and gave me up for adoption.

Meanwhile, in New York, my soon to be adopted mother had been having trouble conceiving a child with my soon to be father, and after a few miscarriages decided to look into adoption because they wanted to be parents. With help from my mother's sister, they found an adoption agency and went through extensive background checks and paperwork to be considered as adoptive parents. They were approved and spared the expensive to fly out to Colombia, several times, to complete the adoption.

Finally on Valentine's Day of 1992, I entered the United States for the first time as a member of my new family. Instead of living in poverty and fatherless, I was now living in one of the greatest countries in the world, and had been blessed with the miracle of two younger siblings. Neither my sister nor brother ever questioned that I looked different from them, but excepted that we were all family.

I'm currently a sophomore in college, attending on an academic scholarship, with the world opened up to me. This was all because of my birth mother who let me live instead of aborting me (though not condoned in Colombia, was still prevalently done especially where I had been) or even abandoning me, she gave me a chance at a good life.

I found later in a form she had to fill out to give rights to my parents that she wrote, "I cannot support another child and want her to be adopted and loved and given all that is necessary."

I will never forget her love and that she gave me the single greatest opportunity of not only my life, but also to my parents who so wanted a child.”
